Church in Ardfert

The S, E and W wall foundations of the pre-Romanesque church (KE020-046008-) were uncovered within the cathedral (KE020-046002-); it would appear to have measured c 18m E-W x 6m N-S (Excavations, 1991). The church in Ardfert was built in the pre-Romanesque style, likely during the 9th or 10th century, and is associated with the early Christian monastic settlement at Ardfert. Its foundations were uncovered within the later cathedral, indicating its historical and ecclesiastical significance in the region.
