CHURCH & GRAVEYARD (site of): BALIBREN in Ballintogher

CHURCH & GRAVEYARD (site of): BALIBREN

What is recorded here

Medieval Ballintogher kept a church and graveyard at Balibren, where worship and death shared one small address. People may have prayed at dawn, buried their dead at dusk, and walked home through soil that remembered both. The site still belongs to County Down, unchanged in kind even when its buildings no longer stand.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CHURCH & GRAVEYARD (site of): BALIBREN. Recorded period: MEDIEVAL. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Medieval church and graveyard; significant as a religious and burial site from the Middle Ages.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
