Chipping Norton Castle

Chipping Norton Castle is a Norman motte and bailey where earth resistance has revealed hidden stone walls and a circular pond beneath the grass. The site sits on a small hill above West Oxfordshire, preserving ditches and banks from a time when castles were built to control the land below. What is missing becomes visible only when instruments measure the resistance of buried stone, suggesting the castle still occupies the landscape even without towers standing.
