Children's burial ground in Rahanane

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children died young in Rahanane and were buried inside the rath, though no grave or marker remains visible to prove the loss. The earth kept their names without asking permission, smooth and unbroken above the dead. Forgetting is not the same as mercy.
According to local information, the rath (KE059-007----) was used as a children's burial ground. There are no visible remains of any graves or grave-markers in the interior of the rath. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
