What is recorded here

Gowlaunlee holds a children's burial ground marked by set boulders and the remains of a small stone chamber. It sits beside a sheep enclosure and near an old ringfort, preserving a place where young lives were laid to rest before the landscape changed around it. The name Cillín still belongs to that quiet corner, keeping the memory alive long after the hands that made it disappeared.

Just outside SE corner of a large square sheep enclosure on mountainside c. 250m NW of a ringfort (GA025-004----). Known locally as Cillín, it consists of a roughly square area (L/Wth 12m), surrounded by a slight earthen bank. Many small set boulders are visible within it, as well as the foundations of a rectangular stone structure (L c. 2.5m, Wth c. 1.25m) (info. T. Robinson). Not visited. Cillín, a type of early Christian or medieval burial site for unbaptized children or stillborn infants, located on a mountainside near a ringfort. Its presence indicates local religious practices and community use of sacred space in the early medieval period.
