What is recorded here
Children's burial ground in Curraghmore (carra By.) is a recorded child burial place in County Mayo, Ireland. The facts do not say when it was used, who laid the children there, or what the ground looked like when they went down. It is not much to know, but it is not nothing. A whole village of small lives may have ended at that spot, been forgotten, and still be waiting under the grass for someone to remember them without making them into a story.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV). Currently the information for this record has not been uploaded. To access available information for research purposes please make an appointment in advance with the Archive Unit (open Fridays 10.00 am – 5.00 pm), Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, The Custom House, Dublin 1 D01W6XO or email NMarchive@housing.gov.ie.
