Children's burial ground in Askillaun (gallen By.)

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children died young in Askillaun and the community gave them a separate ground rather than mixing their small bodies with adult graves. That choice suggests love, fear or both, for childhood death still feels like a wound the living must shape into meaning. The place exists because someone refused to treat those losses as ordinary.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
