This blue commemorative plaque records: Charles Kingsley (1819-1875) Writer & Clergyman. Canon of Chester Cathedral 1870-73. Author of The Water Babies. Founder and first President of the Chester Natural Sciences Society which founded the Grosvenor Museum in 1885.
Charles Kingsley was a Victorian clergyman, writer, and social reformer known for his children's novels like "The Water Babies" and his historical works; he played a significant role in promoting scientific education through founding the Chester Natural Sciences Society.
