This white commemorative plaque records: Prince Charlie's House This building dates from the year 1603. In 1745 'Bonnie' Prince Charlie established his headquarters here during the siege of Carlisle on November 12th to 18th 1745.
Charles Edward Stuart, known as "Bonnie" Prince Charlie, was a claimant to the British throne and led the Jacobite rising of 1745; his headquarters in this building during the siege of Carlisle marks a significant moment in his attempt to regain the crown for the exiled Stuart dynasty.
