This blue commemorative plaque records: Union Flag Inn Grade II Listed Building 1708 In 1745 a confrontation between the forces of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the town authorities took place here. Built as a residence it is a particularly early instance of accomplished classical architecture. Used as a bank since 1930 Recorded plaque organisation: Rochdale Civic Society.
Charles Edward Stuart, also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, led the Jacobite rising of 1745 aiming to restore the Stuart monarchy; the Union Flag Inn in Rochdale marks a site of confrontation during his campaign through England.
