This brass commemorative plaque records: "L'Alliance Franco Ecossaise La Plus vieille alliance du monde" Ces mots ont ete prononces le 23 Juin 1942 par le General de Gaulle de l'auguration de cette maison comme Scottish Free French House
General Charles De Gaulle was a key figure in the French Resistance during World War II and later served as President of France; he spoke these words to commemorate the enduring Franco-Scottish alliance at the inauguration of the Scottish Free French House.
