This blue commemorative plaque records: Channel Island Evacuees: In June, July and August 1940 Stockport welcomed over 1200 evacuees from the Channel Islands. The children were cared for by local families until the islands were liberated in May 1945. Recorded plaque organisation: Metropolitan Borough of Stockport.
Over 1200 individuals, mostly children, were evacuated from the German-occupied Channel Islands in 1940 and welcomed by Stockport communities. They were cared for locally until the islands' liberation in May 1945.
