Cessnock, 'holy Well'

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Cessnock, 'holy Well' as Holy Well (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Cessnock Holy Well is associated with Saint Cessan, a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary believed to have founded a church in the area. The well was traditionally visited for healing and as part of seasonal rituals, with folklore suggesting its waters had curative properties, particularly for skin ailments and livestock health.
