TO THE UNDYING MEMORY OF ALL THE BRAVE MEN OF MEXBOROUGH WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 AND OF THEIR COMRADES OF THIS TOWNSHIP WHO IN OFFERING AN EQUAL SERVICE, WERE NOT CALLED TO AN EQUAL SACRIFICE
The cenotaph was erected in Mexborough to honor the men who died in World War I and those who served but did not lose their lives. It reflects the community's collective grief and pride, serving as a focal point for remembrance and a symbol of the town's contribution to the war effort.
