What is recorded here

One chamber, four doors, and a thin layer of ordinary life: iron, bronze, worked bone, fish shells, charcoal, and animal bones from the Early Christian period. Coleman excavated it in 1942, not as a dramatic disaster site but as a place where people cooked, warmed themselves, made things, and returned often enough to leave behind the residue of days. The cave does not need to be large to be true. It is a small hole in a limestone quarry face, and it remembers hands.
In N half ringfort (CO122-070001-). No visible surface trace due to overgrowth. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
