Cave

In the NW quadrant of a cashel (SL025-089001-). Two openings to the Man-made underground passage are evident, one within the W half of the square internal enclosure (SL025-089003-) in the cashel and the other c. 5m to the SW close to the cashel wall. The first mentioned opening reveals a vertical drystone-built shaft, circular in section (diam. 1m; D c. 1m), which may be the original access shaft to the Man-made underground passage. The shaft is partially infilled with soil and a possible displaced lintel but a creepway is evident, opening to the SW. The second opening reveals a small oval corbelled chamber (3m x 2m; D c. 1.1m), partially infilled with soil and stones. A creepway is evident at the NE side leading in the direction of the previous opening. A rath (SL025-090001-) lies c. 150m to SSW.
