One chamber, one roof, one living edge. The cave is an underground room cut inside a rath in Mayo, likely a dwelling or a hiding place rather than a passive hole. Its ceiling may have fallen or its entrance may have silted shut, leaving only a shallow circular depression in the grass.

In a rath (MA040-053001). A Man-made underground passage, indicated as ‘Cave’, is shown in the S half of the interior on the 1922 OS 6-inch map. There is no definitive trace of this now at ground surface. A small, shallow circular surface depression (diam. 1.4m; D 0.2m) is evident slightly SE of centre; this might be surface subsidence related to the Man-made underground passage.
