Castletown Airfield operated from May 1940 to April 1944 as a satellite to Wick, forming part of the defence of Scapa Flow and Northern Scotland. Heavy AA Battery code C2 stood nearby with two 3 inch guns, while a salvaged 4.7 inch naval gun once fired beside the station HQ before the Navy retrieved it. Today cow manure fills the old decontamination centre, huts rot among overgrown concrete, and the Bellman and T3 hangars have vanished, leaving only dispersal bays and ghost lines for the wind to occupy.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castletown Airfield as Pillbox (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Castletown Airfield in Scotland was developed as a military airfield during World War II, primarily used by the Royal Air Force. It is remembered for its role in air defense and training operations in the 1940s.
