Castletown Airfield served as a satellite to Wick during the Second World War, guarding Scapa Flow and Northern Scotland from May 1940 until April 1944. Its remains include overgrown concrete, huts and a decontamination centre now full of cow manure, while the Bellman and T3 hangars have vanished. A heavy AA battery with two 3 inch guns once stood nearby, and a salvaged 4.7 inch naval gun sat outside station HQ before the Navy retrieved it. What is left feels like a forgotten military kitchen, half-swallowed by grass and time.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castletown Airfield as Pillbox (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
