Castlesteads is the Roman fort of Camboglanna on Hadrian's Wall in Westmorland and Furness, set on a high bluff above the Cambeck Valley. Its square stones guarded a crossing and watched the river bank, while civilians lived in streets below the ramparts. The garden works of 1791 levelled most of the fort, but geophysical work has since traced the vicus and its roads beneath the woodland.
