Castlehill Tower rose on a rocky knoll above the Manor Water to guard a ford, its thick basement walls and narrow stair built for families who expected danger. The Lowis of Manor raised it before 1555, while later owners carried it through sale, abandonment and decay until only the lower rooms remained. Much of its upper life has vanished, but the surviving lobby, vaulted hall and ditch still outline a small fortress made for watching the water and resisting whoever came across it.
