Castlehill Pavement Works, Spoil Heap

Castlehill Pavement Works left behind a spoil heap, a blunt mound of rejected stone and soil where useful material was separated for local building. The site still stands in Highland, Scotland, marked only by a coarse ridge on the land and a vague point on the official map. Men may have broken pavement, filled roads or cleared fields there, but the heap itself keeps no name and gives no answer. It is the kind of place that exists because people worked hard, discarded what they could not use, and walked away.
