Castlehill in Inverness is a layered military site where a castle, fort and county buildings occupied the same hill, leaving a restored well and fragment of rampart as visible proof. It is recorded as a possible enclosure rather than a finished museum piece, which suits a place that kept changing shape under pressure. The hill still works as a warning about how quickly stone can be taken, reused or erased.
