Castlecary

Findspot (19th Century), Brooch (bronze Age)

What is recorded here

Castlecary is the castle at the fort, a name that points to the Roman wall and the native strongholds before the medieval tower appeared. The valley narrows there, the bog blocks the west, and the road crosses the water, so every army and trader passed the same choke point. A brooch from the Bronze Age still belongs to the ground, linking the place to people long before the wall was built.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castlecary as Findspot (19th Century), Brooch (bronze Age). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
