Castle Varech, a 1928 wooden ketch from Wick, struck the shallow water near Rabbit Islands and became a total loss. The Atlantic swallowed her cargo and crew ambitions within hours, leaving only a drowned shadow beneath Tongue Bay. She remains a warning about how quickly proud vessels can vanish when the sea refuses to negotiate.
