What is recorded here
Nobody knows which stones belonged to the castle or whether they still lie beneath Bishops Court. The name survives without a shape, which is either a failure of memory or an invitation to imagine. A chamber, a yard, a keeper, a door closing in wind: any of these may have existed before the place was forgotten. What is certain is that the castle is still named, still owned by the land, and still waiting to be pictured.
