What is recorded here
Achrym castle stood in Clare barony when Edmud Owhny held it in 1574, but no exact place has survived. It may have been a small stone house, a trading post or a forgotten military strongpoint. The loss of its position turns a ordinary castle into an absent marker, forcing imagination to complete what record keeping failed to preserve.
Nolan (1901, 119) records that the castle of 'Achrym', in the barony of Clare, was in the possession of 'Edmud Owhny' in 1574. Not located.
