What is recorded here
Kowcowgh Castle vanished from Athenry before maps learned to draw it, leaving Moris OKynny to hold an address that may never have existed. Nolan recorded the name in 1574, but no stone, ditch or doorway has answered since. Okynny may have governed a hall, a memory or a mistake born in a crowded chamber. Castles often resist discovery because they were never built to be found.
Nolan (1901, 121) records that the castle of 'Kowcowgh', in the barony of Athenry, was in the possession of 'Moris OKynny' in 1574. Not located.
