Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Lisnacode castle vanished from the earth itself, leaving behind only a name and a man called Murrogh Mcfferigh in 1574. The absence is not empty; it is a hole shaped like a building, waiting for someone to remember the rooms. Forgetting is not the same as losing. The castle is still occupied, merely unseen.
Nolan (1901, 111) records that the castle 'Lisnacode', in the barony of Leitrim, was in the possession of 'Murrogh Mcfferigh' in 1574. Not located. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 5 December 2017

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
