Castle Dvnally vanished from Loughrea barony after Shane Offae held it in 1574, leaving behind a gap where a building should stand. The name resists translation and the site resists finding, suggesting the castle may have been small, temporary or deliberately forgotten. It remains a hole in the local landscape, the kind of place that exists only in the moment someone stops looking for it.
Nolan (1901, 112) records that the castle of 'Dvnally', in the barony of Loughrea, was in the possession of 'Shane Offae' in 1574. Not located.
