Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Half a castle in Lehinch, County Mayo, vanished before the Strafford Inquisition recorded it in 1635. The missing half may be buried under turf, hidden in a field or lost in the story itself. What remains is a gap large enough to walk through.
The Strafford Inquisition of Co. Mayo undertaken in 1635-37 records '…the moiety of the castle, town [MA111-072002-] and lands of Lehinch…' (O' Sullivan 1958, 70). The precise location of the castle is unknown. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 24 February 2023
