What is recorded here
Castle is a large vanished structure hidden somewhere between High St and Church Lane in Kilmallock. It disappeared so completely that even its street identity remains uncertain. A castle should leave a scar, a basement or a name behind, but Kilmallock gave it up like a secret. The town may be guarding the absence rather than the building.
The precise location of a castle in High St or Church Lane has not been identified. Described in the Urban Survey (Bradley et. al. 1989, 153) as following; '"Castle". High St / Church Lane.
Described as "large" in 1667'.
