No visible castle stands in Kilmallock, but the missing structure still belongs to the town because it changed the shape of the street and left a name behind. George Miagh’s Castle occupied the east side of High Street near Friar’s Lane, large enough to be called a castle and ordinary enough to be forgotten. The loss is not emptiness. It is a room with the walls removed, waiting for someone to remember where the doors were.

The precise location of George Miagh’s Castle on High St [Main St.] has not been identified. Described in the Urban Survey (Bradley et. al. 1989, 152) as following; 'George Miagh’s Castle High St. This was on the east side of the street Friar’s Lane to the north'. Built by George Miagh in the 17th century, this unclassified castle in Kilmallock is remembered as a historical landmark associated with local urban development and early modern landholding in the region. Its exact location remains unidentified, but it is noted in historical surveys as a former structure on the east side of what is now Main Street.
