Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Laurence wall’s Castle vanished before records began, leaving Kilmallock with a hole shaped like a tower. In 1653 men still called it old, which means stones stood tall while ancestors drew breath and cast shadows. The earth keeps that much from history: a castle large enough to occupy, a wall high enough to break a fall, and a man brave enough to build both before forgetting them.
The precise location of Laurence wall’s Castle has not been identified. Described in the Urban Survey (Bradley et. al. 1989, 153) as following; 'Laurence wall’s Castle. Site unknown. Described as old in 1653'. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 01 October 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
