What is recorded here

Killamanagh holds a castle so completely forgotten that even local memory has erased it. Walter Burke owned the structure in 1574, yet no ruin, field name or story survives to mark where his walls stood. The land keeps its own counsel, denying the castle even the dignity of a legend.

In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Walter Burke' (Nolan 1901b, 118). In his survey of the castles of the barony of Clare, Nolan (1901a, 41) remarks that 'all recollections of this castle appear to have vanished from the district'. Unlocated. Walter Burke held Castle, unclassified in Killamanagh in 1574. It is remembered primarily through early historical surveys, such as those by Nolan, which note its existence but provide little further detail on its construction or strategic significance.
