Kilkeeran is listed as an unclassified castle, which means the site still resists a simple label rather than disappearing from the story. That much of Mayo is made of edge, edge is not emptiness. The name Castle may be a habit of the mind more than a claim about stones, but habits often record what witnesses refused to say plainly.
