Ffilkins Castle stood beside St Marie's Church in High-Street, Limerick, a small fortress caught between worship and commerce. It may have belonged to a merchant family who wanted protection and prestige in the same breath. The name Ffilkins still sounds like a local voice, proud or foolish, depending on the hour.

Ffilkins Castle described in the Urban Survey of Limerick (Bradley et. al. 1989, 262) as following; ‘This was located near St Marie's Church [LI005-017015-] in High-Street' (Westropp 1906-7, 80).
