What is recorded here
Dysert Castle in Craggs may be the only castle left, because the separate castle has vanished from memory. In 1298 a place called Crag paid ten marks yearly inside Shanid Manor, and that payment still echoes beneath the present walls. The castle label remains doubtful, but the building stands.
According to Westropp (1906-7, 242) the existence of a castle in this townland is 'doubtful ... very possibly the present Dysert castle' (LI010-077----).
Westropp recorded the following details about a doubtful castle site in Craggs; 'Doubtful. 1298 Crag in Shanid Manor paid 10m. yearly (C.S.P.L); very possibly the present Dysert C[astle]'
