Castle is a sub-rectangular mound in Barronstown, County Louth, measuring 26 metres east-west and 15 metres north-south, with an L-shaped platform at the west end. It sits in Castle Field, where the shape still breaks the grass like a forgotten chair. The platform may have held a gate, a watchroom or a place for people to gather before entering. Whatever it was, the mound kept its edges long after the building disappeared.
