Castle Stuart stands in the Highland as a medieval castle where the Earl of Moray built a large mansion about 1625, using the older Hallhill name to keep memory alive. Its date stones still appear at roof height in the front and rear walls, while modern battlements and open work decorate the south-west tower. The house remains inhabited and in good order, suggesting that people still live inside the strange layered history rather than merely visiting it.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Stuart as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Built by the Stuart family in the 14th century, Castle Stuart is remembered as a historic seat of the Earls of Moray and for its strategic significance in the Scottish Highlands.
