What is recorded here
Kiltullagh Castle stood as a tower house on the southeast bank of Kiltullagh Lough in 1574, held by Hubert Oconchanon. Time has reduced that defiant stone structure to a grassed mound measuring ten and a half metres long, hiding the stairwell and window embrasures beneath soft pasture. The lake still laps at the edge of the field, keeping the memory of a home that no longer casts a shadow.
In low-lying pastureland on SE bank of Kiltullagh Lough. In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Hubert Oconchanon' (Nolan 1901b, 122). This castle is now reduced to a rectangular grassed-over mound of collapsed masonry (L 10.5m, Wth 7.5m, H 2.2m) but slight traces of the inner face of S wall survive. Traces of a possible window embrasure are visible in N wall, and the outline of the possible stairwell in NE corner; otherwise no architectural features survive. Possible associated earthworks lie to S, and a low stone bawn-like wall is visible around the monument from N through E to SE. (Melvin c. 1971, 14)

Built or held by Hubert Oconchanon (Nolan) in 1574; its location near Kiltullagh Lough suggests it may have served a strategic or defensive role in the region during the late 16th century.
