Shancashlaun stands as an unclassified castle in County Kilkenny, its true history hidden beneath silence and distance. The name itself sounds like a cashlaun, a small enclosure or hillfort, suggesting the castle grew from older defensive roots rather than appearing fully formed. People may have built walls there to control a crossing, protect land, or simply mark power across the plain. What is certain is that the site still belongs to County Kilkenny and still carries the shape of human ambition.
