What is recorded here
Castle of Wardhouse stands in Aberdeenshire as a moated homestead where Sir Bartholomew the Fleming lived in the 1220s before the Leslies of Balquhain held it until 1650. General Alexander Leslie defeated the Young Leith of Harthill there in 1647, breaking the castle’s military pride just decades before ruin consumed it. Today only a dry ditch and outer rampart remain, yet geophysical surveys reveal hidden stone structures and triple ditches beneath the soil. The earth still holds the shape of hands that built walls against invaders, waiting for someone to imagine their breath inside the abandoned rooms.
