Llanthomas Castle Mound stands as a Norman motte built after the 1081 invasion of Wales, its earth dug from a vanished ditch and timber taken from nearby woods. The mound guards a forgotten ford where Saint Eigen once lived, linking brutal conquest to ancient faith. Men may have watched riversides from that height, reading water and shadow before building stone.
