Castle mound in Herefordshire is a scheduled monument, though the detailed facts describe Llanthomas Castle Mound in Powys, Wales. That Welsh motte rose three metres above a twenty-four metre base after the Norman invasion of Wales in 1081. Earth from its ditch and timber from nearby woods formed a defensive shadow near Llanigon, Hay-on-Wye and the River Wye.
