Castle Mound is a Norman motte-and-bailey ruin in Llanigon, Powys, built after the 1081 invasion of Wales. The Normans threw local earth and timber into a nine-metre summit to watch the River Wye ford, while the older church of St. Eigon already stood nearby. The mound still rises above the lawn like a forgotten guard dog, keeping watch over a boundary that no longer needs guarding.
