Castle Moffat stands in East Lothian as a possible medieval motte and bailey, its earthworks still shaping the land before stone or story claims them. The mound may have risen for a local keeper, a border guard, or a forgotten noble family, while the surrounding ditch marked the limit of their world. That much is missing, yet the shape remains clear enough to imagine: a small height for a tower, a flat area for living, and a boundary drawn in soil.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Moffat as Motte and Bailey (medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Built by the de Moravias in the 12th century, Castle Moffat is remembered as a strategic stronghold in the historic rivalry between Scottish and English forces in the Borders region.
