What is recorded here
Castle Knowe rises beside the Kilruskin Toll Road as a rounded mound that may have guarded the long road between Ardrossan and Fairlie. Its stones were removed in the 1890s, its ditch was hidden when the Kilruskin Burn was culverted, and cultivation has worn the place smooth. An oak once stood at its east side, where people may have gathered to argue, judge or remember. The mound still protrudes through the ordinary land like a forgotten room in a house nobody lives in.
Castle Knowe is shown as a archaeological place on the public map of Westmorland and Furness. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
