Castle Knowe

Building Platform (period Unknown)(possible)

What is recorded here

Castle Knowe rises beside the old Kilruskin road as a broad mound that may have watched travellers, hosted justice under an oak, or simply gathered soil into a shape people could imagine. Its rampart was broken and carried away in the 1890s, yet the knowe still stands prominent enough to mark the edge of memory. Whether castle, moot hill or buried chamber, it keeps the usual Scottish trick of withholding its own name.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Knowe as Building Platform (period Unknown)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
