Castle Knowe rises beside the old Kilruskin road as a battered medieval mound whose stones were stripped in the 1890s, leaving behind a boundary between memory and forgetting. It may have watched travellers, hosted justice under its oak, or concealed a burial, while the land around it shifted from marsh to farm road. The mound still stands near North Kilruskin Farm, small enough to walk around and large enough to refuse a single explanation.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Knowe as Unidentified Flint(s) (flint)(period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
